In late October 2014, I did an overnight backpacking trip along the Natchez Trace and in to Tombigbee National Forest. The terrain was rolling, forested hills with pleasant ravines with traces of muddy water in them. I saw several horseback riders, but no backpackers. The horseback riders looked at me like I was crazy...I don't think they see many backpackers in Mississippi!
